Former Governor General of Australia Sir Peter Cosgrove admitted that he was no stranger to the surrounds of Singleton's iconic Rugby Park when speaking at the club's popular 'Bulls' Lunch with a Legend' series.
The former Singleton resident shared tales of his on field rugby memories playing against the Bulls in the mid 1970s when addressing a crowd of 300 during this afternoon's Singleton Bulls' fundraiser.
It marked the 52nd edition of the Singleton Bulls' 'Lunch with a Legend' series which commenced in April, 2003.
"Nowhere else in Australia is the Rugby club so close to the emergency ward," the 72-year-old stated to the amusement of his listeners.
"Overall, Singleton is one of the 27 places I've called home and it holds a special place for myself and my lovely wife who is also with us today."
After sharing local sporting tales the former general delved into his journey when he served as commander of the International Force for East Timor (INTERFET) in 1999.
HONOURABLE GUESTS: Michael Johnsen (Upper Hunter MP), Graham O'Brien (Singleton Bulls former president), Joel Fitzgibbon (Federal Member for Hunter), Shane Thompson (Singleton Bulls president), Anthony Partridge (Singleton Bulls Director of Rugby), George Souris (former Upper Hunter MP) and special guest Sir Peter Cosgrove.
Earlier in the afternoon the guest of honour was also invited to try the first case of Singleton Bulls Brew alongside Joel Fitzgibbon (Federal Member for Hunter), Michael Johnsen (Upper Hunter MP), George Souris (former Upper Hunter MP), Shane Thompson (Singleton Bulls president), Anthony Partridge (Singleton Bulls Director of Rugby) and Graham O'Brien (former Singleton Bulls president).
"Another amazing fundraising effort by the Singleton Rugby Club today," Mr Fitzgibbon stated on social media later that afternoon.
"Great to have 'the General' back in town."
Event organiser Peter Dunn also declared the event as a success.
